Magic Jack Free Mobile phone app - Review

Today, I have just loaded the Magic Jack phone app for my iPhone. I am already a magic jack customer and only only draw back before, I always had to keep the computer on. Now with the free mobile app, I take it everywhere I go and its never turned off. Don't need a long distance plan with my cell phone company either which is more costly. Just a good data plan which I already had. Watch out Skype!!!

Magic Jack review - Owning one

Just to follow up on my last review on the Magic Jack. We finally decided to buy one. It can be found almost everywhere now at Computer stores or the big retail places like Best Buy, The Source etc. for 39.95 and the first year is free. The Magic jack was easily installed with no issues, though my computer loads a little slower now at boot up.

Here is my break down of the Pro's and Con's again but as a user.

PROS:

  • We lowered our home phone package to not include long distance anymore, which saves us 15 dollars a month.

  • Sent Magic Jack overseas, then family can use them also, and when calling them, its free as its now a North American phone number!

  • Great to also have a second line in the house, so no one is fighting over the phone all the time, especially when you have teens

  • They currently have a 5 year package for 59.95 (hope they don't go bankrupt by its only 59.95)
  • You can now get a Canadian phone phone for a small fee for around 40 dollars Canadian. At this time, we didn't seem the need to get one, as we still have our existing line.

CONS:

  • Still have to leave computer on it you want to keep receiving calls but away around this is just forward to home line or cell phone even when computer is on. No extra charge for call forwarding as its all included.

  • Sometimes there is static or some interference noise, just call back to get around this.

  • If you were to leave the computer on all the time - your wasting electricity (maybe hackers have access to your computer 24/7 too....lol)

Overall: Its great item and the price is right. Though, I would not replace your land line. Just use it as a second line and for long distance. This will save you tons of money but keep your computer off when your not using it. Just forward the incoming calls to your other phone!
